Overview
Abnormal lung nodules or masses are frequently identified on chest X-rays or CT scans, often incidentally. Not every lung nodule represents cancer, but appropriate assessment is important to determine the need for further investigation or monitoring.
Common Symptoms
- Abnormal chest X-ray or CT finding (often asymptomatic)
- Persistent cough
- Haemoptysis (blood in sputum)
- Unexplained weight loss
- Breathlessness
- Chest pain

How We Diagnose It
Evaluation depends on size, appearance, growth pattern and clinical risk factors. May involve CT surveillance, bronchoscopy, PET scan or referral for additional investigations.
Treatment Approach
Management is individualised based on radiological characteristics and clinical risk. Options range from CT surveillance at defined intervals to bronchoscopy or referral for biopsy or further evaluation.
