Overview
Pneumonia is an infection affecting the lung tissue. It can range from a mild illness manageable at home to a severe infection requiring hospitalisation. Prompt and appropriate treatment is important.

How We Diagnose It
Assessment includes clinical examination, chest X-ray or CT, blood tests, sputum examination and oxygen saturation monitoring.
Treatment Approach
Treatment depends on disease severity, likely causative organism, age and comorbidities. Antibiotics are the mainstay. Supportive care and monitoring are important. Severe cases may require hospitalisation.
